I used to have two really small rooms downstairs in my house. They felt cramped and uncomfortable and it wasn’t nice for anyone who was in there. I tried using mirrors and increasing natural light but small rooms just aren’t nice, especially if you have a large family. The solution to this is to knock one of the walls down. Be careful with this though.

If the wall in question connects to another property, then you’ll need permission. If you’re in the capital, you can look for party wall surveyors in London who will help you with this. For internal walls between two rooms, then (assuming you’re the owner), you don’t need permission. Even so, go to a surveyor because this is a big job. They’ll let you know if the building is able to cope with losing a wall and make changes if not. For external work, you’ll need a notice which you can get via this website: https://www.apmprojects.co.uk/
